The Gallup Q12 Index asks 12 questions based on behavioral economics research such as, “At work, do your opinions seem to count?” and “Do you have a best friend at work?” Gallup scores on a 1-5 scale that measures respondents’ attitudes toward each question.

A business employing the Q12 survey gets results from Gallup as overall scores, along with some guidance for identifying engagement across areas of “strength and opportunity.” However, companies then have to examine the low scores and figure out what to do next. They can spend months analyzing the root cause of lack of engagement by conducting employee interviews and focus groups – before they can even begin to fix the problems.
